The RI Chem facility in Bagong Ilog, Pasig was bestowed the prestigious “Lakan ng Lawa” (Chieftain of the Lake) Blue Rating (Zero-Discharge Category) award by the Laguna Lake Development Authority in its 5th Public Disclosure Program Awards at the Hotel Rembrandt in Quezon City last December 14, 2010.
RI Chem earned the award for its “good environmental performance” in 2009, during which it adhered to LLDA’s stringent regulatory requirements and successfully implemented zero discharge.
Other “Lakan” awardees included Coca-Cola Bottlers Philippines, GMA Network, Manila Water Co. and Toshiba Information Equipment Philippines.
According to Dante S. Valenzuela, Resins Environmental Advocacy Officer and RI Chem Pasig Pollution Control Officer, the company was able to reduce pollution in 2009 through “effective monitoring and information sharing” that resulted in better production efficiency.
Receiving the award from LLDA General Manager Rodrigo E. Cabrera were Mr. Valenzuela and Bernie G. Bagaman, Resins Corporate Communications Manager.
Earlier, RI Chem’s mother company, Resins Inc., was declared a finalist in the search by the Federation of Philippine Industries for the most outstanding FPI Sustainable Development Initiatives. Resins made the finals in four categories: Corporate Social Responsibility, Health and Safety, Management of Wastes, and Optimum Use and Recycling of Resources.
Once again, RI Chem has adhered to its commitment to “control all forms of waste” and “safeguard our community and environment.”
